My heart is just now slowing down and its been 3 days - ha! On Saturday morning, I loaded the boys up in the double stroller and headed to the park, Bryan was golfing so it was some nice Mom/Hudson/Carson time! I thought, what better than the park! We had been there about an hour and the three of us were making sand castles. Curious Carson got his typical naughty grin on his face and started to stomp on Hudson's castle - you can imagine that didn't end well. I told Carson I would take him to play on the frog. Welllllll, Hudson decided he wanted to play on the frog (go figure!), so he started to race over to it before Carson could get there. As he was running, I told him to slow down and let his brother play on it first. Guess what!? He didn't listen...he's a boy...at a park, there was no stopping him. That is until he tripped! Tripped, flew forward, hit his forehead on the frog, screamed a scream I had never heard before and then the blood...ughhh the blood! So awful. When he turned around, his face was covered - I took his shirt off and tied it around his head to help with the bleeding - the gash in his forehead was, well, unpleasant. I called my own momma, because I knew Bryan probably had his phone on silent golfing. She came straight there - we loaded up in the car and off we went to the ER.
The craziest part of all this, is after his initial scream, Hudson didn't shed one tear. From the moment we went to the hospital, to the moment he got his 5 stitches put in, he just chatted with us. We sang a few songs as she was stitching him up and and that was it. Carson all the while, still in shock - not making a peep either. Hudson's only request was to see his stitches after they were in and he did. He thought they were pretty cool, because there were blue. He even got a bear from the hospital and named him "Stitches." How perfect, huh!? To be honest, I think Hudson took all of this better than I did. He amazed me and still has over the past three days. Every time I change is bandages, he sits there patiently and we sing songs.
I hope this is our only trip to the ER, but as a mom of boys, I can't predict that!
I have to give a shout out to two people...1. a very kind man, who lived by the park. He had heard Hudson scream and when he saw what was going on, he came right out with gauze, asking us what he could do to help. That in itself, kind sir, was amazing. God bless good people in this world. He kept the stroller in his garage until all of this craziness was over. 2. my mom - who saved the day. This is why I love living close to them. She was there to get us within a matter of 3 minutes and stayed with us until we got home and settled in. Thank you, momma.
Hudson Thomas, here is your first major wound, buddy!...
